The royal couple participated in an official sitting for the item.
As if there wasn’t enough preparations in order before Prince Harryand Meghan Markle get married in a few weeks (today is May 1, which means, yes, we are officially in the month of the wedding, you guys), there is now yet another collectible that must be obtained.
The Royal Mint has released a special coin design featuring the couple, designed by Jody Clark (who has experience with this sort of thing, responsible for the most recent Queen Elizabeth coin, made in 2015). Clark was, in fact, given a private sitting with the couple in order to craft the most realistic design as possible. The vibe of that sitting, was, per the producer, “relaxed and informal,” and Hello! suggests the image of the pair showcases the “easy familiarity and connection between the royal couple.”
The C.E.O. of the Royal Mint, Anne Jessopp, feels similarly. “It has been an [honor] for The Royal Mint to work closely with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to create the authentic Royal Wedding coin celebrating this most British of celebrations,” continuing, “I have been in post as C.E.O. of The Royal Mint for just a couple of months, and already The Royal Mint has celebrated the birth of His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge, and now a Royal Wedding, so it’s a very exciting year for The Royal Mint in terms of royal moments.” Sure, that quote is perfectly fine, but c’mon, Jessopp, we want more details on what the sitting was like and what Harry and Markle talked about and what their body language was when they weren’t in the “sitting,” etc.!
The coin itself costs roughly $6.82, but the satisfaction of saying to your friends, “Oh, you don’t have the official coin? You can hold mine for a minute, I don’t mind,” will be priceless.
