When Cheech was picked up off the streets of Texas and transferred to City of Waller Animal Shelter, volunteers weren’t sure how the tiny resident would react to his new and unfamiliar surroundings.

However, as he was hanging out in his kennel, the two-year-old pupper got himself noticed when he started making an adorably weird face.

“I went into the kennel to check him out and yelled for the other volunteers to come look. They thought I was insane and that he was snarling, when I stuck my hand in the cage I thought they were going to pass out. He’s as friendly as can be,” said Leah Sipe, director of the shelter.

Sipe knew she had to share Cheech’s cheeky smile with the world, so she snapped a few pictures and posted them to the City of Waller Animal Shelter’s Facebook page, where it quickly went viral.

The post had 3,800 reactions and earned over 7,800 shares, but most importantly, adoption applications came pouring in!

Someone even turned Cheech into a meme!

And sure enough, after the volunteers went through all of the applications, they were able to find this heartbreaker the perfect home.

A woman named Carrie contacted the shelter and explained to the staff that she had just lost one of her dogs to cancer and the remaining one, Dusty, was so devastated he hadn’t been eating.

So, a meet-and-greet was arranged, and when Carrie and Dusty met Cheech for the first time, everyone knew it was a match made in heaven.

And even though he’s only been in his new home for a few days, Carrie says Cheech has been loving every minute of it.
